The Orcinus Decemvirate is the an oddity amongst the Pacific
Decemvirates, defying most of the stereoypes associated with the
eastern Atlanteans. Most of that is tied to the fact that they are
the only Pacific Decemvirate that was not settled by the Amarisians
and the Orman. In fact, the origins of the Orcinus come from the
most unlikely of sources.
The end of the Atlantean 'Imperial' Era was not well received by
some within the Atlantean people. Where once they held sway in
alliance with the Empyereans, now there was only ash. For most of
the Atlantean People, the promise of the social evolution towards
isolationist Utopian ideals was enough to fill the void in most
Atlanteans' lives. For those that were not satisfied, the peaceful
challenge of exploring the far reaches of the Great Ocean was enough
to sate even the most jaded Amarisian. However, there were still
elements for whom peaceful wanderlust and banal Utopia were not
enough to sate. These Atlanteans were primarily of two groups; One
of them were groups of intensely nationalistic Tritonians for whom
the memories of their dominance was just too great. The other were
the most conservative of the Lirites, angered by the retreat of
their missionary work and dissatisfaction with their role in the
Society to come. These two unlikely groups found solace and common
ground in their self-imposed ostracism and decided to create their
version of the new society in the far reaches of the Great Ocean.
The new people quickly merged and followed the trail that was
blazed by the early Amarisian explorers into the Pandion Waters.
Instead of following the Amaris further into Ipponis Waters, the
Orcinus (They had already dubbed themselves thus), traveled north
along the coast of the Far Eastern Continent. The new Waters were
strange and foreign, possessing many dangers that the Orcinus
constantly had to test themselves against. The challenge was
intoxicating, and it sated the martial spirit of the new breed and
stimulated their society to grow at a rate that was unheard of
amongst the Atlanteans of the West. As they progressed along the far
coasts, they quickly established settlements and used those as
springboards for further explorations. The Orcinus during this time
established contact with the Varati, Empyereans, and Sylvans of the
region and learned of the going-ons of the world and interacted with
them peacefully...but to a greater degree than most of the
Sea-Dwellers. It was not until the breadth of their exploration was
complete in the course of a highly improbable two hundred years that
the Orcinus finally chose a home in the northeast waters of the
Great Ocean.
The Orcinus of today are a robust people that as different from
the other Atlanteans as the Empyereans are from the Varati. Some of
the same social structures that exist within the Atlanteans as a
whole exist within the Orcinus and the grandiose nature of the
Tritons and the religious fervor of their devotion to Pasiphae is
reflected in them. However, they have evolved a vibrant culture that
places emphasis on their martial nature and military prowess. To be
sure, intellect and art is known to them and appreciated, but their
society seems to be more of a meritocracy than a utopia...an outlook
that colors their interactions with the outside world. Unlike the
other Pacific Decemvirates, they are quite opposed to the spread of
the 'Water' Religion. The worship of Pasiphae is taken very
seriously there, and it seems to take a rather different form than
that practiced by the Lirites. There has been rumors of violent
programs within the Orcinus Waters against the spread of the new
religion. If this is true, than it would be something that is quite
unlike any conceived notion of the Atlantean people that is held.
