Aether - Reunion
------

Aether was an original-themed fantasy MUSH (Multi-User Shared Hallucination) -- a type of online roleplaying game. It was based on various world mythologies, including classical Greek and Roman, Native American, and ancient Persian and Indian. With its consent-based roleplay, extensive news files, and innovative code, Aether attracted a multitude of talented players and staff over its four year run -- from January 23, 1998, to February 14, 2002. This website is a tribute to the time, work, dedication, and care that went into the game.

The new game is here! Staff has been working hard over the last month to get AetherII open so that you could all start playing again. For more information log onto the game at

------

Imagine looking into a still pool and seeing a reflection. It is imperfect; wavering and distorted by whatever refuse happens to be floating on the surface of the water. Sometimes it is difficult to tell the reflection from the reality--you can see glimpses of two places at once: the inverted image of the sky, clouds, trees, and your own face; as well as what lies beneath the pond. Dark shapes flit by--are they the fish beneath, or the birds above? In those few moments, in that mirror-still pool, the two worlds meet and converge, and the difference between reality and reflection is slight. Given a nudge by your imagination, they are one and the same.

Such is the case with the world of Aether. In some ways, it is a reflection of our world, and in others, what exists in Aether is the reality and the aspects we glimpsed shaped our own histories and myths. Nearly every culture has some stories of angels, demons, faeries, gods and goddesses. Was it merely human fancy that created similar legends all across the world, or could those stories have some basis in fact? What if these beings really did exist, and our rare glimpses of such creatures gave rise to tales, myths--even entire religions. That is the basis for this game--that there is a world separate from our own, yet inexplicably entwined; where "gods" and "goddesses" still walk; where "angels" and "demons" wage a battle between light and darkness; and where magic, in all its varying forms, still exists.
