Heard in Haven: April 1998
Title: Tremors It may have been noted by the more perceptive individuals within town that there was a slight trembling to the earth on the morning of September 3. Reports come in from the farmlands that the disturbance was somewhat more severe out in the fields, growing in intensity the closer one got to the forest realm of the Sylvan folk. Two bird-winged people, a man and a woman, were seen to leave the wood during this unexpected early morning event; though the task of leaving was not easy. For it seemed to the awe-struck farm folk that the greenwood itself was bent in rage against the two. It was noted by more than a few that the two who seem to have suffered the forest's ire both wore the garb of Haven's heralds... Title: Heralds, Attacked? Word is spread that the well-known Chief Herald -- referred to simply as Stormrunner by many -- and a friend said to be a Herald as well were assaulted on the morning of September third by one Strongbow, sachem and spokesman for the Sylvan tribes, also now known as an Earth Elemental. Apparently the altercation occurred because the sachem refused to allow the two Heralds to visit a mutual friend/acquaintance currently living in the forest. There was an argument, after which Strongbow proceeded to attack the pair magically. The friend in question -- referred to as a 'she' -- was not present at the time but her disposition as described towards the pair would indicate that the Chief Herald and her companion were not turned out at said friend's request. Many are quick to point out that in light of this, Strongbow may well have decided not to allow the friend any visitors at all and so has in effect kidnaped her. In addition and in blatant violation of the political immunity granted to Heralds, it is said that both have been banished from the forest. Title: A Sylvan in the Palladium? Interested observers, of which there are doubtlessly many in the political circles of Haven, are aflutter with the news that yesterday evening the Sylvan elder One-Paw entered the Palladium. Some observers say that the old man had a rather grim look on his face, quite an odd contrast from the wrinkled Graisha's normally enthusiastic grin. Whatever the case, those same interested observers doubtlessly spread rumors all over the place when the Graisha failed to re-appear from the Empyrean embassy. What the heck is a Sylvan -- a Graisha, nonetheless -- doing, spending the night in the Palladium? Title: Oh boy... Several unconfirmed reports circulate that a member of Delphi was seen entering the Citadel hand-in-hand with an unknown winged male halfbreed the night of Thursday, the ninth. The former is described as being either Atlantean, Sylvan or an Arch-Magus; some assume a combination thereof, or all three. Whether there is any truth to be found in the stories is anyone's guess. Title: Further Sylvan Sightings Those gossipers who were keeping an eye on the Sylvan in the Palladium noted that he left the next day, apparently leading a group of Empyreans out of the west gate in the direction of the forest. Most rumors involving this sighting seem to agree that the group of Empyreans included not only a Hound, but a member of the Aegis, as well. Title: Shop Ransacked! The sun rises to a startling find by the Hounds and other members near the Varati district of Haven. A billow of smoke was rising from Rampur's Crystal Shop, which sold jewels and other precious stones. The Hounds rushed to the scene to discover the shop entirely ransacked; except for a few rubies left lying in the ashes of the main room, the interior was scorched black. Other rooms within the shop, including Master Rampur's chambers upstairs were less damaged, but they too had been pillaged. Though no deaths were reported, and the thievery and arson were apparently committed late at night, Master Rampur himself appears to be missing. Said to be generally a good man, he has been known to be a shrewd merchant and a member of the new, burgeoning middle class within the old caste systems of the Varati. There have been no word yet as to who and when an investigation shall begin, as well as a
search for the Varati merchant, but the act of robbery and destruction will surely not be looked
over.
