In the year 3904 on Aether, the Varati and Empyreans clashed in war. This page chronicles the events of the war, whether it be through logs, posts, short stories, or poetry.   03-14-99: The Dea of House Tritonis comes to pass "sentence" on one of the Praetorians responsible for the coup against the Aegis.
• The Price of War (20K)
  Featuring: Ismene, Khalid (I/III), Phoebe
  03-13-99: The horrors of war are not some distant, abstract idea, but brutal reality, as a single Empyrean family attempts to flee the doomed Lycenae and encounters the "demon-god" of their enemies.
• The Fate of Cassius Augustin (63K)
  Featuring: Cassius, Hepzibah, Khalid (I/III), Kiera, Rabi, Shahar, Zuhayr
  02-28-99: Cassius presents himself to the God-King of the Varati to answer for his "war crimes," and past sins come back to haunt him while Khalid Atar decides his fate.
• Through the Ring of a God and King (40K)
  Featuring: Eranthe, Khalid (I/III)
  02-23-99: As part of the peace treaty, Eranthe goes to meet with the God-King of the Varati, to answer for her part in the war. The treatment she receives is perhaps the last thing she expected.

  02-23-99: Four representatives of the Aegis, after separately surviving the ordeals of an insurrection and a meeting with the God-King, come together to decide on a final matter of importance for the Empyre -- its new leader.

  01-12-99: Taken prisoner when Callisar's Eyrie fell into Varati hands, Thalia Tritonides is invited to be Khalid Atar's "guest."
• A Soldier's Reckoning (11K)

  01-09-99: Two soldiers find themselves having a brief conversation about the war they fight against the Varati.
• The Siege of Duropolis (110K)

  12-05-98: The Empyreal city of Duropolis is invaded by Varati forces.

  11-14-98: The Varati Pasha and a Seraskier of the Agni-Haidar butt heads over dinner; both of them too proud to ever bend, even when their goal is a common one.
• The Storm (20K)
  Featuring: Lysander (@emitting), Oriane
  10-24-98: Callisar's Eyrie, a small Empyreal city in the northern mountains, is attacked by a group of Varati scouts seeking supplies before they continue their journey. But they are thwarted by an unnatural storm, called by a fledgling elemental-mage who is determined to protect her home.
• The Winds of War (53K)
  Featuring: Arslan, Cassius, Dralo, Duayr, Eranthe, Kalypso, Lysander
  10-13-98: Another meeting is conducted by the representative heads of Empyreal government and the Pasha of the Varati. Tempers are raised, arguments voiced, and negotiation attempted -- to no avail.
• The Rescue (43K)
  Featuring: Cepheus, Eranthe, Faisal, Fath, Lysander, Stavros
  09-30-98: Lysander and Eranthe, missing for almost two weeks now, have been steadily, and slowly, making their way through Varati territory toward Haven. This is the last leg of their journey, and the most dangerous part of it... but luckily for them, the Archon and Imperator have gone to look for them.
• The Battle of Canyon Pass (69K)
  Featuring: Achmed, Altair, Bali, Cassius, Drusus, Elidi, Fehdan, Kaliq, Kiritan, Lysander, Praetis, Segel, Xanthiel (I)
  09-18-98: The Empyreans launch a rescue mission to retrieve Eranthe Augustin, who was captured by Varati and confined in their mountain camp.

  Stygios, a mining territory of the Empyreans, is attacked by the Varati, and the 13th Velite is sent out to defend it.

• Battle-Cry: by Colin (2K)
  A poem about a fighting unit sounding their last battle-cry.

• Despair: by Cassius (8K)
  Cassius receives word about the fate of Parnassus, where his wife is stationed.

• The Fall of Callisar's Eyrie: by Arslan (15K)
  The Varati launch a second attack on Callisar's Eyrie, and this time they are successful.

• The Farewell: by Elidi and Cassius (15K)
  The war has an impact in subtler ways, threatening to ruin the fleeting warmth between a husband and a wife.

• From Praxis to Haven: by Drusus and Oriane (17K)
  Letters are sent back and forth between an Optio in the Praetorian Guard and his lady-love back home.

• The Philosophy of the Victorious: by Gadiel (10K)
  Two Varati Agni-Haidar speculate about the future and their defeated enemies, now that the war has ended.

• To Parnassus and Back Again: by Cassius, Celia, Cynara, Elidi, and Oriane (31K)
  While the Praefect is away at war, she receives letters from her family and friends, but the messages bring as much heartache as comfort.
