  12-27-98: Khalid holds court in Atesh-Gah, summoning several of his more trusted followers, and declaring two "candala" as favored among his people.
• Forever Varati I Shall Be (18K)
  Featuring: Allegra (Zada), Khalid (I/III), Zuhayr
  12-17-98: Khalid has summoned Zuhayr and Allegra, so that he might see who this Empyrean child is that has taken shelter in Atesh-Gah.
• The Deus and the Diaper (26K)
  Featuring: Eranthe, Lysander, Megeara
  12-15-98: Something on the lighter side: A war-orphan has been brought to the Palladium, and is being looked after by Eranthe and Megeara. Lysander stops by just in time for the diaper-changing, and is the unfortunate beneficiary of the infant's decision to relieve its bladder.
• Assassination of the Khaliph (43K)
  Featuring: Archana, Arslan, Beggar, Drisana, Faisal, Khalil, LittleBear, Mehmet, Niamh, Rabi, Zuhayr
  12-10-98: Tragedy strikes outside Atesh-Gah as Mehmet, the Khaliph and High Priest of the Atarvani, is murdered.
• A Lecture and a Lesson (20K)

  12-04-98: Okalani instructs one of her students in the use of telepathy while she chastises a priestess of Pasiphae for improper behavior.
• Fighting the Change (15K)
  Featuring: LittleBear, Spirit-Whisperer
  12-01-98: Earlier, LittleBear had gotten into a fight with StoneCougar, whose desire for her was too possessive. She shifted into bear-form to flee, and Spirit-Whisperer, a halfbreed shapeshifter, followed. After a late-night pursuit through the forest, he has finally caught up to the young graisha. He then teaches her a little bit about the difference between being a shapeshifter and being a graisha, and understanding that difference.

November:

• Blind Justice (29K)
  Featuring: Altair, Arslan, Jihaad, Larissa, Rabi, Vesir
  11-07-98: A Hound has come to arrest the Nayaka of the Xerxes Clan, Vesir, for kidnapping an Empyrean female. But the Hound's justice is curtailed by Varati justice; and it is the Pasha himself, Arslan Messala, who punishes the errant Nayaka for his deeds.
• Let the Games Begin! (87K)

• The Naming of One-Paw (18K)

  07-13-98: A Praetor and an outcast Empyrean exchange harsh words in the sky above Bordertown. Outright violence is averted by the arrival of a Hound.
• A Broken Engagement (36K)

  07-10-98: A dark Empyrean claims kinship with House Thanatos, and the outrage of such a "taint" is enough to drive Arianna of House Augustus to call off her engagement to Lord Raziel, patriarch of Thanatos.
• Ferrin's Pride (27K)
  Featuring: FoxDancer, GreyWolf, Matthias, One-Paw, Red-Tail, Winter-Oak
  07-05-98: One-Paw re-tells the origin of the graisha, made popular by "stone-walkers" who had turned the story into a tragedy rather than a tale of pride and duty. Thus, here is his version, and the version of the Sylvans, known as "Ferrin's Pride."

  02-24-98: Raziel and Damaris converse about recent activities in Haven, including the confrontation in the Rialto between Khalid Atar and Samein of the Delphi, as well as the increased Varati troops in the city. Then they lapse into a debate about the Empyreans' role among the races--whether it be as conquerors or as "shepherds."
